Sydney [Australia], April 18 (ANI): A.R. Rahman’s new musical “Chennai Express” will premiere at the Sydney Opera House on May 23 as part of the Vivid Sydney festival, the composer confirmed on Saturday.

The three-year-long project features an 80-member orchestra and 12 principal performers, with a book by playwright Girish Karnad (adapted from his unpublished manuscripts) and lyrics co-written with Javed Akhtar.

Rahman called it “a love letter to the South Indian musical tradition, staged for a global audience.” After Sydney, the production tours to London, New York and finally Chennai in October. (ANI)
