Brussels [Belgium], April 19 (ANI): European leaders concluded the two-day energy summit on Friday with a unified declaration on joint gas purchases and a binding target of 90 per cent storage capacity by November 1, ahead of the 2026-27 winter.

The framework allows EU member states to aggregate demand and negotiate as a bloc with LNG suppliers — a direct response to the 2022 supply shock. The agreement survived opposition from Hungary and Slovakia after late-night compromises.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called the outcome “the most substantive energy-security package since 2022.” India’s Ministry of External Affairs said it is studying implications for the India-EU LNG dialogue. (ANI)
