Washington [US], April 19 (ANI): The United States Senate has passed the AI Transparency and Accountability Act with a 71-27 bipartisan vote, sending the legislation to the House for consideration.

The bill requires watermarking of AI-generated content in political advertising, establishes a federal registry for foundation-model disclosures above a compute threshold, and creates liability standards for autonomous systems.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called the vote “the most significant tech governance bill since the CDA of 1996.” Industry reaction was mixed, with smaller AI firms warning of compliance costs. (ANI)
